Last week, AMC released the first images of the upcoming television series Interview with the Vampire , based on the Anne Rice books from The Vampire Chronicles. Now the long-awaited production trailer has also hit the web.
The short announcement revealed that the series is scheduled to debut on screens this fall. As for the trailer itself, we don’t see Louis or Lestat in action. Instead, we have an insight into their world. A 30-second trailer takes us to their stately home, where the caretaker prevents daylight from entering a room with two coffins in the center.
The early 20th century scenery was also revealed in the trailer. We can see one of the early versions of cars as well as a kind of horse-drawn carriage. This image is in line with previously released photos that show Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) in New Orleans around the same era. That’s an interesting plan, considering that in the novel Interview with the Vampire, Louis describes his contact with Lestat in the 1920s as very limited and very different.
The serial adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1976 novel has been prepared and announced by AMC for a long time. The author regained the rights to the book in 2016, and over the years various attempts and proposals have been made to adapt the Vampire Chronicles series . However, it was AMC’s proposal that was the only one that made it out of the initial stages of development, and the project officially moved forward in 2021. According to the show’s executive producer Mark Johnson, they went to great lengths to uphold the legacy of Rice’s storytelling while ensuring the characters appeal to a more modern audience.
Developing this series comes with a lot of pressure and responsibility. What Anne Rice has created and what her fans expect is forcing us to take extraordinary steps. It is imperative that we don’t disappoint the fans, and yet we need to make sure that in this story, these characters also speak to a modern audience. We hope this series will force readers to rediscover the writer’s work. We also hope that those viewers who have never read Anne Rice’s novels will go to the bookstore wanting to understand what all the fuss is about. Johnson told PEOPLE magazine
Interview with the Vampire isn’t the only Rice novel on AMC . The station also decided to adapt the books from the series The Story of Witches from the Mayfire family , in which Alexandra Daddario is to play the main role.
