Last month, Disney fans saw Halle Bailey as Ariel for the first time in the long-awaited movie The Little Mermaid . The trailer introduced fans to Bailey singing the iconic “I Really Want”, and people had a lot of different opinions about Florek’s debut, voiced by Jacob Tremblay. Today, Disney released a brand new poster for The Little Mermaid , which elicited a lovely backlash from Bailey.

In addition to Bailey and Tremblay, The Little Mermaid stars Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. The film is directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) and written by David Magee and Jane Goldman. The film is set to feature original songs from the 1989 animated blockbuster, as well as new songs composed by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. During an interview with Collider, Miranda spoke of working with her longtime idol, Menken.
Yes, Alan is the reason I’m in this business. I’m here because the Little Mermaid turned my head. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken shaped my childhood. It took us a while to get started because we were both nervous that we would be the first, that we would be presenting the lyrics or music… I learned that Alan is perhaps our greatest melodist since Richard Rogers. His scribbles are better than any melody I will write in my life.
I haven’t actually written any new melodies for Sebastian Kraba because I love his songs so much. I figured I couldn’t do it. However, I was able to write for a few other characters in this movie. Every song you love in The Little Mermaid remains, we only found a few new moments to make music. This is really hard.
