Welcome to Transylvania!
Vampires decided to come out of hiding and try to take power over people. However, they begin with an internal dispute in which the new generation of bloodsuckers is trying to eliminate the old ones. They are led by the mysterious Shadow Colonel, and one of his first victims is Dracula himself! The war begins in earnest, and innocent people suffer during the fights as well. This situation cannot be idly watched by the Avengers, who, with Blade’s support, decide to put an end to the bloodshed. They do not know, however, that their opponents will try to recruit one of them. The Russian Winter Guard is also implicated in everything. It is with them that the former ruler of Transylvania is looking for help.
We’re still getting started
This is the third volume of Avengers from the Marvel Fresh series . Its author, as in the case of the previous two , is Jason Aaron. The writer certainly knows where he is taking the adventure, but unfortunately he does it in a very uneven fashion. In the Vampire Warthe story unfolds slowly and suddenly gets a strange acceleration to surprise us with a sudden finale. Plus, there are some pretty predictable scenes, like the Avengers having to get hit first to motivate themselves to do better. During the fights, it is also not possible to feel any special emotions and it is difficult for the recipient to empathize with them. Also, the idea of taking over one of the heroes by vampires and solving this idea leaves a lot to be desired. We can also complain about the history of prehistoric times. In the previous issues, the performance of Odin or Ghost Rider on a fiery mammoth made sense and led to contemporary events. This time it was decided to tell us about the ancestor of Iron Fist, but this hero does not appear in the notebook at all. Perhaps this is the foundation for a future adventure but at the moment it seems to be more of a stuffer, maybe interesting, but not having its reference in the following part. The author also seems to have forgotten the American Flagship Squadron, set up in Volume Two to compete with the Avengers. The thread seemed intriguing, but unfortunately its continuation has not yet followed. In fact, the most interesting characters here are the members of the Winter Guard and Count Dracula who is making his own intrigue. And in this case, we already have a great plot twist, which will make us reach for the next parts of the comic! Maybe then we will also be fully developed. Egmont has already announced the event it is supposed to be called in Volume Two to compete with the Avengers. The thread seemed intriguing, but unfortunately its continuation has not yet followed. Burn!
From the visual side of the Avengers. The vampire war is looking very good. This is mainly due to David Marquez, the cartoonist responsible for ¾ of the album. His works are compelling and lively. The clashes look realistic, and the artist’s vision of hell is impressive. There is also a lot of fire that absorbs everything around.
Andrea Sorrentino drew the rest of the notebook for us. So far, this cartoonist has been associated mainly with the Old Man Logan series and I have usually criticized the frames he created. Somehow, I did not like the style, which mainly uses computer graphics. Seeing the next works of the Italian artist, I was still not convinced of him. This time, however, I can praise him. Finally, he created something pleasing to the eye and readable. To tell the truth, if it weren’t for the name on the cover, I wouldn’t even have thought that I was looking at the pictures of the aforementioned Sorrentino. A positive change that we can be happy about.
Prelude?
If the War of the Vampires is actually the prelude to the War of the Worlds , then history may well defend itself a bit. The twist on Dracula is noteworthy, and even if we go back to the ideas started in the previous volumes, it will be possible to give her a better appreciation as a whole. At the moment, however, the scenario should be assessed as predictable and not very convincing. It is carried out too fast and will not surprise the fans with anything special. Its advantage is the graphic side that is very pleasing to the eye. However, is it worth getting acquainted with it? We will only find out about this.
