Vampire Academy was directed by Mark Waters from a screenplay by Daniel Waters. Zoey Deutch starred in it as Rose Hathaway and Lucy Fry as her best friend – Lissa Dragomir. The plot followed the return of the girls to St. Vladimir. The cinema premiere took place on February 7, 2014, but while the novel series itself was very popular, the film turned out to be a failure.
The adaptation was met with an overwhelming number of negative reviews from both critics and fans, who felt that it did not match the source material. Plus, it was a box office flop and eventually Vampire Academy was released direct to DVD in the UK. Preger Entertainment tried to raise funds to continue the series of adaptations, this time based on the second novel, In the Claws of Frost , but ultimately failed.
As for the latest adaptation of the Vampire Academy , it was announced in 2021 that Peacock , more precisely Plec, would be taking on it.

The 2014 Vampire Academy movie is now available on Netflix, and the new series will premiere its first four episodes on Thursday, September 15 in Peacock.
