In the second installment of the Earth East series, Marco Emery and his comrades in arms must face another battle. This time in space
Fighting in space
Despite winning the battle on Earth, the fight against the creatures known as the Winds is not over yet. Marco and his platoon will not be able to rest after a hard battle in which they will lose many friends. They fly out into outer space to join the Outer Space Defense Command. The heroes do not make a good first impression on their colleagues from a much more elite unit fighting the invader. They are humiliated and pointed with the fingers. Soon they receive a message from one of the colonies that extract crystals that allow for fast space travel. What they find there will be remembered for the rest of their lives and nothing will ever be the same again. In addition to battling space centipedes, Marco tries to write his book and finds himself in the middle of a love triangle.
A worthy follow-up
Daniel Arenson doesn’t let his heroes rest even for a moment. Once again, it throws them into the center of the action and serves up increasingly difficult obstacles to overcome. Marco’s platoon includes his best friend Addy, Lieutenant Einav Ben-Ari, Sergeant Singh, Lailani’s new love, US-raised Russian Beast, and Elvis. Each of the characters has their own goals and dreams, you can easily feel that we are dealing with people of flesh and blood who lived in extremely difficult times not only for the planet Earth, but also for the entire universe. We also learn about their past and previous lives. The second part of the series also contains a lot of humor, most often appearing in verbal skirmishes between platoon members.
On the other hand, the author’s vivid imagination manifests itself, inter alia, in the descriptions of the behavior of the iniquities and the abominations they commit. The descriptions are very illustrative, so people with sensitive stomachs should approach the Earth on firewith some caution. While reading, we will experience many scenes of fighting with aliens. Most often they take place in the dark that causes anxiety. I think the tunnels that stretch the length of the Corpus lunar where the heroes have to fight against the snakes may be one of the worst places to end up in. The more that space worms are lurking everywhere. The book is written in simple, light and pleasant language. It can draw the reader in, and given the fact that it is less than 300 pages long and the font does not strain your eyes while reading, you can finish it in one evening.
Summary
Daniel Arenson once again takes the reader on a journey into a reality where humanity fights for the survival of its species. After reading Earth on Fire, it can be concluded that not only the existence of man is at stake, but also the existence of the universe as we know it. I would like to have the third volume in my hands and find out what will happen after all that the heroes have gone through. I have the impression that it could be worse, although it is hard for me to imagine at this point.
