The family is the most important – review of the comic book “Cosmic junk”

This time Craig Thompson focused on family, a light story and a young heroine. Could this combination result in a compelling science fiction comic book for young and old readers?

Trike to the stars …

Craig Thompson’s comic focuses on the fate of a young girl named Violet. She lives with her parents on a small ship. Pretty soon, however, a series of unfortunate events occur, as a result of which this crazy girl sets off on a journey of her life to save her father. One of the dangers in space is not pirates or dangerous, intelligent alien races. In the case of Space Clutterthe worst are the space whales, for which everything that doesn’t move is plankton. No wonder they ate Violet’s school. The cure for this turned out to be building space stations, so in this universe we will not see a variety of planets. Violet, together with two friends, will go on an extraordinary journey – he will visit many strange places, face all kinds of dangers, all in the name of his family.

People, nuggets … and chickens?

The main characters are Violet, Elliot and Zacchaeus. Elliot is a typical high school student who spends the most time in books. More importantly, however, he is a chicken and is one of the many intelligent races that inhabit the cosmos. How did it come about that poultry gained consciousness and won a place in outer space? Zacchaeus is the last representative of the nugget breed. In addition, a misfit, because he is much smaller than his fellow countrymen. It is not surprising, then, that Zacchaeus is quite temperamental. He is a typical rascal, but also a very good friend.

Violet, a crazy girl, is delightful in every way. He shows courage, unusual ideas and it must be admitted that he can even fight. With dental floss on hand, he is like David fighting Goliath.

Apart from the three most important characters, there are also Fiolet’s parents. The father is Gar, who originally worked with his friends in something like a motorcycle gang and did a lot of trouble. Cera, on the other hand, is a talented fashion designer, ready to sacrifice a lot to give her daughter a better life.

Hubka, Gerome, and Gwumpky are Gary’s friends and former gang members. One thing must be admitted – this is a crazy and strange trio. It’s impossible not to like them.

There are really many heroes. I love everyone, most of them amused me more than once. The main three heroes are a masterpiece. They complement each other perfectly.

Space whales are attacking

The cosmic junk was released in a hardcover. In addition to the main story, a sketchbook has been added. With this add-on, you can see concept art, as well as character and ship designs. As for the edition, I can only fault the inconsistent page numbering.

Can a sawmill be beautiful?

The sketchbook shows how much work the creator put into creating individual characters, vehicles or space stations. In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful comics. You can see the attention to detail here, which is why I really liked the scenes shown inside the vehicles. Heroes and Aliens are a colorful mix. The cover encourages and promises an amazing adventure.

How is life in O-Elephant?

I knew from the beginning what this comic could offer me, so I was not disappointed. It turned out that Cosmic Clutter is a nice, light story that takes place in a quite intriguing world. When reaching for this item, be aware of what is expected. There is no overly ambitious plot and unpredictable twists here. Cosmic junk is reading that will make us laugh, put us in a good mood, and also make us aware again that the most important value is family.
