‘The Exorcist: The Confessor’ director excited about sequel possibilities

The premiere of the film The Exorcist: The Confessor is coming soon – we will see it in cinemas on October 13. Still, director David Gordon Green is already eager to talk about potential sequels.

David Gordon Green is best known to horror fans for directing the latest Halloween trilogy , which saw Jamie Lee Curtis return to the role of Laurie Strode for the first time in 16 years. Now he’s reviving The Exorcist with The Exorcist: The Confessor , which will see Ellen Burstyn reprise her role as Chris MacNeil for the first time in 50 years. Green recently spoke to ComicBook.com about the new film with producer Jason Blum, and the topic of Halloween came up. Green addressed whether he would follow the same trilogy route with The Exorcist.

Well, it’s great fun. We had a road map that said, “You know, if the world accepts what we’re doing here, we’ll keep doing it.” So we had a nice road map, and then once we got into production, the movie took on a life of its own, and we took a few detours along the way. But I’m excited that if this movie is well received and we can keep them in line, we have some new avenues to explore.

– said Green.

How is The Exorcist: The Confessor different from Halloween ?

Green recently spoke to IGN and explained that The Exorcist: The Confessor will be different from his Halloween trilogy when it comes to nostalgia.

This isn’t an Easter Egg movie. I had a lot of fun seeing what some of the old [Halloween] cast were doing and referencing all the Halloween movies. The Exorcist is not that kind of fun… The Exorcist is more scientifically and psychologically terrifying.

Green revealed.

I didn’t particularly want to continue the horror story. I’ve said a lot in three films and wondered what would happen next – but [The Exorcist] was too amazing an opportunity to miss… We could exercise new muscles, try something different, and use our tools of drama in horror movies.

– added the director.

What is The Exorcist: The Confessor about ?

Since the death of his pregnant wife in the Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom) has been raising their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett), alone. When Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear into the forest, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, a chain of events is triggered that will force Victor to confront evil. In her terror and desperation, she will find the only person alive who witnessed something similar: Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn).

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd as Victor and Angela’s neighbor and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz as Katherine’s parents.

The Exorcist: The Confessor is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Executive producers are Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer. The film is produced by Blumhouse, Morgan Creek, Universal and Peacock, which paid a total of more than $400 million for the rights to revive the series.
