Not so innocent leprechaun as he is painted
The character of Dobby, a house elf who wants to save Harry Potter , presented by JK Rowling, has its roots in Scottish folklore, but these creatures also inhabit Great Britain. In some families, the belief in the existence of brownies, because these creatures were called because of the dark color of their skin, was so strong that they usually had their own place at the table, and sometimes even a separate room. The house elves willingly helped with everyday tasks, their presence was primarily evidenced by the prevailing order, but they seem to be much darker than Rowling would like to admit. These creatures worked most often at night and rarely appeared to the household members – taking into account the fact that they are not necessarily famous for their cheerful disposition, and moreover, they sometimes work without clothes, it should be considered an advantage. It is true that if they are offered clothes, they will leave the household, but it is worth adding, that not all house elves are as obedient as Dobby, moreover, they do not do their work for free. The role of the means of payment was mainly played by small food products left on the fireplace. Most of the house elves are sensitive to any criticism, especially regarding their work, and there are also cases when they resorted to motivating lazy owners, playing new tricks on them, and even resorting to violence. They dislike Christian symbols in particular, as well as holy water – when they decide that the measuring cup has changed, they leave the household, and if the household especially gets under their skin, they can turn into malicious spirits, making running the house a torment. Enchanted forest
When a wanderer gets lost in English forests, he risks encountering many supernatural phenomena – among them there is a huge, green creature, definitely less friendly than an ogre known from films. The Green Knight is a character that appears already in Arthurian legends – he was mentioned for the first time in an anonymous manuscript dating from the 14th century, according to which he came to King Arthur’s court as an unannounced guest, looking for a daredevil who would agree to have his head removed. The unusual color of his skin and enormous size aroused the fear of the feasters, but one of King Arthur’s knights took up the challenge to save the court from disgrace. There was a catch in this proposal, for in exactly a year and a day the Green Knight promised to return this dubious favor to the brave rider. Before that happens, the daredevil will be subjected to a series of challenges to prove his virtues. The figure of the Green Knight is considered by many to be a figment of imagination, some researchers say that he is nothing more than the personification of nature, which takes revenge on man for the wrongs suffered. While such an interpretation is not excluded, caution is still encouraged. The character of the Green Knight is associated with the Welsh town of Holywell and central England – so if the green stranger asks you to behead him in these areas, it is best to politely decline and depart. Preferably as soon as possible. which takes revenge on a person for the wrongs suffered. While such an interpretation is not excluded, caution is still encouraged. A troublesome wanderer
The opposite of house elves are bogarts, which are also associated with a specific place, but from the beginning they are only a nuisance for the locals. It is difficult to talk about the characteristic features of these creatures, but according to witnesses, they are united by ugliness, they often resemble goblins or even devils. Their repertoire includes innocent pranks, such as introducing chaos in the household – they make animals limp and milk turn sour. Occasionally, these ghosts can also be problematic, which can be particularly troublesome given that, unlike elves, they do not follow the reciprocity principle. This is evidenced by the Miterdale case. The hostess who lived there, in the absence of her husband, decided to shelter the old woman, who seemed to be tired of the long journey. When she fell asleep in front of the fireplace, the shawl, with which it was wrapped tightly, revealed her true face – the old woman turned out to be a man who, in addition, had a fierce-looking knife with him. Without thinking, the scared lady of the house grabbed the frying pan and hit the would-be attacker in the head, killing him on the spot. As soon as the woman’s husband returned home, the man’s body was buried, which unfortunately did not solve the case. The island’s apparitions apparently belong to extremely tenacious spirits, and the countryside there is still a place of his visit. A lady with no manners
If you ever find yourself in the West of England town of Newport, chances are you will hear of the Chetwynd Park Estate, where you can meet one of Britain’s white ladies. Madam Pigott’s tragic story began with a marriage that was not contracted out of love – her presence on the estate had a clear purpose from the beginning, which was the birth of an heir to the estate. Her health, additionally damaged by her husband’s wicked behavior, who preferred to spend time in the local taverns over accompanying her pregnant wife, gradually deteriorated. When it was time to give birth, Madam Pigott’s body did not live up to the task set before him – as soon as complications arose, her husband without hesitation gave the order to save the baby, not caring that her heart was still beating and hearing his words. The mother did not survive the childbirth, and the child also died, but she did not abandon her property and her calculating husband – the residents have repeatedly seen her wandering around the area, holding a baby in her arms. This lady, however, did not stop at shedding tears and decided to look for ways to work through the loss that was tormenting her. In her heyday, Madam Pigott’s favorite pastime was throwing riders off their horses, and when the troubles she caused became unbearable, as many as twelve exorcists were summoned, who managed to trap the nuisance spirit in a bottle buried in the cemetery. However, if journalists are to be believed, their method was not successful – locals report that Madam Pigott has decided to go with the times and has recently been seen on the road between London and Birkenhead,
