Regardless of what Batman fans think about the character’s performances in action movies, many agree that LEGO Batman: The Movie was great. A sequel was announced quite quickly, but never really became a reality. Perhaps this is surprising, since the first film grossed over $300 million at the box office worldwide. Partly that’s because the LEGO movies released afterward weren’t satisfactory either, and the other is that Warner Bros. it is no longer licensed to make LEGO movies . However, for fans interested in What Might Have Been, the full plot of The LEGO Batman Movie 2 has been revealed.
Speaking to UPROXX , director Chris McKay discussed what he will be sharing with viewers in the sequel.
We had a really cool script with Dan Harmon and Michael Waldron, we wrote a really funny kind of SuperFriends. A sequel would be like a Super Friends movie , and the structure was supposed to be something like The Godfather Part II. with Batman and the Justice League facing a modern day issue, Lex Luthor and OMAC, while reminiscing on the reasons why Batman and the Justice League – and especially Superman – have bad blood. It was intended to explore Superman and Batman’s relationship in a very different way than it has ever been portrayed, including Superman’s estrangement from humanity and how difficult it is to be true friends, true friends over the years. Ultimately, he will answer the question: how to become superfriends. And it was supposed to be a crossover with a big one that can only happen in a LEGO movie.

Universal Pictures took ownership of LEGO in 2019 to make films with the brand, but so far has not announced anything as active development.
