What if the Lord of Hell had had enough of recognizing him as the worst and brought a lawsuit against the Church? Thanks to the Timof Comics publishing house, we can see what such a trial could look like.
Anyone can have a crisis
Our Friend Satan is a comic about Lucifer himself, who is currently experiencing a midlife crisis. More and more people stop fearing hell, so the Catholic Church begins to portray Satan as a horned creature with tentacles, fangs, and claws just to scare her followers. Meanwhile, the true Lord of Hell looks like an ordinary bald man in his forties, who likes to wear a bathrobe, undershirt and slippers. Satanists do not like this appearance very much, as they would prefer to see their god in a much darker and more formidable version. All this means that our hero decides to bring a lawsuit against the pope himself for presenting his image and lying to people. The case, however, takes an unusual turn. Especially that in the absence of their boss, the other Devils are not doing very well in Hell.
A solid dose of humor
The authors of the comic book are Dominik L. Marzec, Łukasz Lalko and Michał Murawski. I must admit that this trio did a great job. The first of these is responsible for the script of the notebook. The other two for drawings. In the end, we get our hands on a hilarious title that is worth recommending. From the very first pages and the appearance of a pissed off Satan eating spaghetti, a smile appears on our lips and does not disappear until the very end. Cane, though not very clever devils, Hitler forced to cook tripe and make cakes, the Pope with his own space station, and finally Jesus resting on a sailboat – all are so absurd and at the same time hilarious that it is difficult to stop reading. There are also inserts not related to the plot, but very funny, in the form of, for example, a Spanish inquisitor, which in Hell no one expected. In addition, there are drawings with beautiful and vivid colors, which please the eye, but at the same time force you to carefully look at them. We can find there a whole series of details that add flavor and even more humor. There are amusing slogans carried by Satan’s opponents, but also more hidden fragments, such as a movie fragmentThe shining appearing on the television watched by the Pope. And all this is perfectly complemented by dialogues and interactions between the characters, and above all the story itself. Because while it all sounds more like a drawing joke, the main plot itself is addictive. It is impossible not to cheer on Satan, who constantly experiences new competitions and disappointments. His ineptitude and stumbling blocks are touching. Here we come across a life loser who wants very much, but nothing comes out of it. However, in the final… well, you have to check it out for yourself.
Will you be friends with Satan?
Our Friend Satan is an extremely funny one-shot shooter. The humor contained in it is not too sophisticated, but it brings a smile to your face. Here we can laugh at simple jokes like in a comedy of mistakes, find some easter eggs, but also subtexts or references to the real world. Despite the fact that Jesus appears in the comic and the Pope is presented in a negative light, no one should look for images of religious feelings here. Everything is in the right tone and without any exaggeration. Anyway, the creators show from the very first pages that these are not attacks on anyone’s faith, but only a light and entertaining comic. Most importantly, however, for the title itself – the recipient receives beautiful drawings and a captivating story. So if you want to laugh, break away from heavier titles and have fun, then definitely reach for our Friend Satan .
