Reportedly, the producers of Elden Ring planned many feature DLCs. It’s one of the biggest games of the last decade, which was a bit of a surprise considering it’s a relatively niche genre.

While games of this nature tend to be critical favorites and do well commercially, it’s rare for them to become as famous as Elden Ring did .  It was one of the best-selling games in 2022, competing with even the biggest hits such as Call of Duty . Its success even took a toll on various developers such as Respawn who spoke about how the game influenced their work on titles like  Star Wars Jedi: Survivor .

It seems FromSoftware intended to make  Elden Ring a long-term success with lots of DLC and a season pass. According to renowned Soulsbourne pundit Lance McDonald (via Reddit), the producers of Elden Ring  were initially planning two DLCs and would even sell the season pass to get them. He then noted that FromSoftware had just finished merging the two add-ons into one big one, but had no idea why it was done that way. If also the add-on is sold in such a way that it will be much cheaper than it would be if it was sold in two parts, then it is a win-win for everyone.

At the moment, it is unclear what will happen to the  Elden Ring series after the release of the only story DLC . Perhaps you can expect a sequel given the game’s cosmic sales numbers. Whether that will happen is a complete mystery, but it seems we can expect it in the future.
