Sebastian Stępień became the creative director of the new Diablo. It promises a more down-to-earth storyline in the game.
At the beginning of this year, Sebastian Stępień, one of the key designers of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 games, moved from CD Projekt RED to Blizzard Entertainment. Today we know that Stępień has become the creative director of Diablo IV , which was announced at this year’s BlizzCon. The developer commented on the vision of the upcoming production.
It seems that the new version of the iconic hack n slash series is to be characterized by a more mature plot than before,
We want a more mundane storyline than in Diablo 3 , and the best way to do that is by offering players the opportunity to explore ordinary people’s stories. While playing, we will come across over a hundred villages in which we will learn about the fate and problems of their inhabitants. […] So this time it’s not about great heroes, politics, kings, or other themes known from the so-called high fantasy, but about people like Wirt from the first part or Marius from Diablo 2 .
Stępień also emphasized that they want to capture a very specific atmosphere known from the second part of the series.
It is also worth paying attention to the article of the British daily The Telegraph . Blizzard co-founder Allen Adham stated that crossplay is very important to the company and they will strive to introduce a cross-platform play system in their games. So it is possible that Diablo IV will connect PC and console players.
We do not know yet when Diablo IV will be released , but Blizzard argues that the title will not hit store shelves too soon, even by studio standards. It is certain, however, the production is headed for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
