The Duffer brothers set off to further conquer Netflix. The duo behind the success of “Stranger Things” are starting a new studio, and one of their new productions will be an adaptation of the cult manga.
Through The Hollywood Reporter, Matt and Ross Duffer announced the opening of Upside Down Pictures. Their new company will of course work closely with Netfliks in the coming years. The streaming giant has signed a contract with the creators of Stranger Things for five different productions. As the creators themselves described, their studio is to create projects that tell stories on the border of normalcy and extraordinary. Great shows are to coexist with more modest, individual characters’ stories, and cynicism is to lose to the heart. Upside Down Pictures will be hosted by Hilary Leavitt.
Even all the projects that will come out of the new Duffer company are already known. Two Stranger Things spinoffs will be among the five productions . One is likely to be the next series that the creators of the original will deal with personally. The second is a theater play set in the same world. It is to be directed by Stephen Daldry. Another project is an adaptation of the novel Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub. The fourth production remains a secret so far, but it is known that it will be made by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews ( Dark Crystal: Riot Time ).
The fifth project is perhaps the most surprising, as it is about a new acting version of Death Note . The new production will in no way be related to the movie released by Netflix a few years ago. That picture met with a lot of criticism, especially from die-hard fans of both the original manga and the anime series. No more details are available yet about the new version of this modern classic.
