Daedalic Entertainment, responsible for the latest failed project set in the world of Tolkien, changes its profile to publishing. The new Lord of the Rings game has been put on hold.
Gollum was one of the most talked about releases of the year, and not for good reasons. The creators of the controversial game announced via the German website GamesWirtschaft that they are changing the company’s profile. Daedalic Entertainment will now become a publisher. Officially, it is not known whether the Gollum slip-up influenced this decision. At the same time, another production from them based on The Lord of the Rings was under question .
According to a statement released, the German former studio already has eight potential games in mind to release. Changes in Daedalic affected the employment situation of some of the team. Of the 90 people working in the company, 25 will have to change jobs or say goodbye to colleagues. Daedalic assures that they will do their best to keep as many people with them as possible.
Gollum is one of the worst games of the year and of all time. On the recognized Metacritic website, the average rating currently oscillates around one. The negative reception of the production was influenced by numerous errors, poor plot, graphics at a very low level and the price for top-shelf (AAA) titles. For now, it is not known whether the new project based on the works of JRR Tolkien will be transferred to another studio.
