The first volume of OKP Dolores turned out to be a pretty decent introduction to the cosmic universe of Didier and Lyse Tarquin. Is the next part of Mona’s adventures equally intriguing?
Back to the past
In the previous volume, Dolores crashed on a planet inhabited by the Rassets. Fortunately, it turned out that the mission of the Church of the New Pioneers was active there. Thanks to this, the heroes can count on their help in rebuilding the ship. Therefore, they have time to get to know each other better, and thus almost all the cards are revealed in the second volume. Among other things, Kash tells his story, we also learn about Tork’s identity and motivations. As in the previous installment, a lot is happening here, there are numerous clashes, including an epic space shooter. It is also worth mentioning that in this volume Father Meliah will tell an interesting cosmogonic myth of the Rasset race. And all of this on only forty-eight pages. It cannot be denied that the comic book would look much better if these two volumes were combined into one, and so we feel unsatisfied.
“Dolores, you look great pissed off, ha, ha!”
The edition keeps the level of the previous volume, there is no way to attach anything to it. The situation is similar with the visuals that are beautiful. Nature, heroes and clashes in outer space look brilliant. In addition, on one page you can see a gutted robot, whose “guts” were presented with details and small flavors, because it turns out that it was assembled from parts belonging to machines known from other works. I really like this easter egg , which is not the only one in this volume.
Is Dolores going in the right direction?
OKP Dolores is a nice story in a science-fiction atmosphere. The presented world is intriguing, and there are also numerous clashes and cosmic skirmishes. Sometimes there is too much going on here, and there is not enough time to deepen the characters’ features and for some interesting side threads. It cannot be denied that, as in any other comic, its insignificant volume is felt strongly. To sum up, OKP Dolores is a decent comic book, beautifully illustrated, but while reading it, I had the feeling that I would like to pause for a moment and not rush to the main plot. And although the second volume did not disappoint me in any way, I have the impression that the authors somehow started to discover the cards too quickly (including Tork’s plot), and I would like this interstellar journey to last longer.
