Cast members commented on this in a recent online meeting. The conversation turned to the planned Netflix production, when Dee Bradley Baker pointed out that turning the animated series into live-action was doing nothing:
I’m open to a live-action series, the details of which I don’t know anything about, but the question comes to my mind – how do they want to improve the way the original series depicted the story? I have no idea how to do this. I hope it is possible.
Not only the avatar Appa has reservations about Netflix’s intentions. His friend from the set, Olivia Hack, also wonders about the sense of such a production:
Especially if it’s going to be exactly the same series, only shot as live-action. It does not add anything, it does not expand the universe. It seems superfluous to recreate the same thing.
Although some actors have expressed their interest in the announced series, not all are completely convinced of it. The fact that the creators of the animated Avatar , Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, resigned from the Netflix remake due to “difference of views” certainly does not help .
