After the early cancellation of the film in 2021 by Disney, no one expected it to return to animation. However, Netflix surprised everyone and released an official synopsis. Nimona is expected to hit the platform at the end of 2023.
The upcoming animation is based on the comic book series of the same name by N. D. Stevenson . Interestingly, it even served as his diploma work at art school. A long period of work finally brought Nimona closer to entering the film arena. According to USA Today, the possible release date is the end of this year. However, this is not certain information. Social media is also not silent about it. There are more and more posts on Twitter.
What is the official Netflix synopsis?
In a techno-medieval animated adventure, a knight (voiced by Riz Ahmed) is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, and the only person who can help prove his innocence is a teenage shapeshifter (Chloë Grace Moretz).
Why was Nimona canceled early?
Originally, the film adaptation of the graphic novel was created and fully developed by Blue Sky. Unfortunately, in 2021, the studio was officially closed, which forced Disney to abandon production. Even though it was 75% complete, it still required about 10 months of work.
Nimona has always been a bold story that just never ends. She’s a fighter… but she also has some really amazing people fighting for her. I can’t wait to announce that NIMON’S MOVIE IS ALIVE…coming in 2023 from Annapurna and Netflix.
– said ND Stevenson when Netflix “saved” the animation
What do we know about the plot?
The title character is a shapeshifting teenager with a tendency to unrighteous behavior. As an assistant to Lord Blackheart, she intends to wreak havoc and take revenge. Their main mission is to prove that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his fellow Law Enforcement and Heroism Institutions are not who they think they are. As small acts of mischief escalate into brutal combat, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as dark and mysterious as her past, and that her unpredictable, wild side may be more dangerous than he admits.
