If you’ve already cooled down after reading the first volume of the Robert Beatty series, it’s time to start another one. Serafina and the Twisted Staff continues the adventures of a teenage girl who discovers that it is not easy to escape her destiny.
Different than all
In the previous review, I mentioned Beatty’s unusual advertising campaign, in which potential readers can see short, themed trailers. So if you want to look at the author’s original ideas and see if the plot of the reviewed book is for you, take a look here . I would like to point out that this is a solution especially recommended for people who have not read the Beatty series so far, although watching all the trailers will slightly spoil the fun of discovering the next adventures of the title character. The second volume of the series – Serafina and the Twisted Staff – remains in the concept of Disney fairy tales, and the story of the girl will surely intrigue you, because there is no shortage of magic in it.
Story meanders
The action of the novel begins three weeks after defeating the man in the black coat. Much to the unpleasant reader Seraphim, he does not feel well at the Biltmore estate; it seems to her that she does not fit into this organized world. However, she also cannot find herself in the forest where her mother lives. In addition, the heroine has to face dark magic, which spreads extremely quickly in the world she knows. Reading the second volume of adventures about Seraphim, one can get the impression that the plot of Beatty’s novel is somewhat repetitive – the familiar heroine again fights the darkness around her and tries to overcome her own weaknesses, but unfortunately with less caution and commitment. In addition, the author aims to remind the recipient of many facts from the heroine’s past (i.e. the first part of the series), often with the least important additions, which unnecessarily stretches the novel. In addition, it is extremely easy to discover who in this story is the protagonist and who is the antagonist, which spoils our fun a bit. But… Serafina and the Twisted Staff is a book that you should read if you like thrillers of magical provenance.
Magic is all around us
Serafina and the Twisted Staff is a literary proposition that will appeal to readers of all ages. Like its predecessor, it was written in a light, pleasant language. The action is fast-paced, and the criminal plot will positively surprise you. It is worth noting that the atmosphere of the story is a bit dark, which adds to its fairy-tale character. The second part of the adventures about Seraphim is a bit weaker than the first, but the overall impression will depend primarily on the expectations of the reader. If you don’t mind fewer twists and a slightly predictable ending, nibble on Beatty’s treasure and be glad to have two more volumes ahead of you!
