The adventure is underway – review of the comic book “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, vol. 3

We are just halfway through the refreshed story about the famous Ninja Turtles. The previous two volumes served as an introduction to the adventure. Will we finally see the story unfold this time?

Mysterious organization

The third volume of the comic begins with the solo adventures of two of the four title characters. First, we have the opportunity to see Rafael in action, along with his friend Casey Jones, defending the boy’s neighborhood from bandits. He accidentally comes across an anthropomorphic adventure, which he saves from trouble, which leads to unforeseen events. By the way, two antagonists well known to all fans of this title are introduced. Then we move on to the story with Michelangel in the lead role. He goes to a New Year’s party, during which he gets involved in the theft. The way out of this oppression seems extremely complicated. Finally, we return to the main plot that began in the previous volumes. We get to know a mysterious organization operating in the city. As it turns out, Splinter knows quite a lot about her,

Are we starting?

The plot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesis finally starting to gain momentum. While the previous volumes were full of action, we actually watched the skirmishes lead to nothing. It was more about introducing the characters and building a bond between them. Now we finally see what comic book makers are headed for. Although at the beginning we get two stories that, it would seem, are only meant to introduce us to Raphael and Michelangelo, after reading the whole, we will realize that everything is related to each other. It is also worth emphasizing that these individual adventures are really good. In the first one we have a lot of interesting and spectacular fights and a show of friendship between Turtle with a red bandana and Casey. The story about the nunchaku hero is even better, as it is a combination of fast-paced action with a large dose of humor. Each of the characters shows a face, which we know well and expect from them, and finally we come back to the main plot, where we find out why Splinter recently told the story of Hamato Yoshi and we meet the Foot Clan. Eastman and Waltz begin to reveal some secrets to us, but at the same time arouse our curiosity, creating completely new ones. Brian Lynch, who collaborates with them on this volume, also introduces an appropriate intrigue. Unfortunately, everything breaks off again at such a point that we are left with a lot of hunger. But this will, of course, encourage you to read the next volume creating completely new. Brian Lynch, who collaborates with them on this volume, also introduces an appropriate intrigue. Three styles

As I have already mentioned, the comic in question is, in a way, three different stories. Each frame was created by a different cartoonist. They were: Franco Urru, Andy Kuhn and Dan Duncan. If you’ve read the previous volumes, you already know the style of the last of these artists very well. A very interesting and expressive line and a great selection of colors are his hallmarks and can certainly appeal to recipients. However, even his works are inferior to what Urru created for us. His works, in which the main role are played by light and shadow falling on the characters, will be appreciated by even the most demanding readers. On the other hand, the frame of the mutant arctic fox could be cut out, framed and hung on the wall to decorate our house. The third cartoonist followed a definitely different path. You can’t say that he stands out from his colleagues, but his illustrations are definitely different from the others. At first, this style may bring to mind Mignola’s sketches mixed with a cartoonCarmen Sandiego . And it is this method that fits perfectly into the slightly lighter and definitely more humorous story about Michelangelo. So it is safe to say that all three gentlemen performed their tasks very well.

Half behind us

Behind us is the third of the six volumes of the refreshed version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles published in Poland by Amber. We can still complain a little that the comic has been divided into so many parts, which makes the plot move very slowly, and the notebooks themselves are too fast to read, but let’s take comfort in the fact that the title may not have hit our market at all. And this is certainly to be regretted, because the story told by Eastman and Waltz is captivating, thoughtful, full of secrets and fights. The characters themselves have been created in such a way as to give them a bit of freshness, and at the same time satisfy fans who know the classic story about Splinter’s students. It gets more and more interesting with each passing moment. Let’s hope that in the next installments we will see more Leonard and Donatello, and the main topic will not stray from the chosen path and will give us even more exciting adventures of anthropomorphic reptiles!
