The adventure continues! – review of the comic book “Star Castle” vol.2 and vol.3

A tense geopolitical situation and an invention that could bring an end to the world as we know it. Will Seraphim and his friends manage to prevent a catastrophe, which would undoubtedly be the takeover of eternef by the Prussians?

The conquest of outer space

At the turn of the 20th century, the need for expansion emerged in German political thought. During this period, it was believed that politics set the goals of the strategy, but it should not affect the course of hostilities. Therefore, the dreams of comic Prussians – and in particular Otto von Bismarck – about the conquest of space are most accurate.

The conquest of space , although the Star Castle is primarily a story about the adventures of Seraph and his friends, largely focuses on the figure of Louis II. The ruler was presented as a melancholy dreamer, which, moreover, does not deviate from the actual opinion about him.

Knights of Mars

Since the comic book titles clearly communicate that the protagonists successfully use eternef to embark on an interplanetary journey, I will certainly not present the comic book to anyone if I write that our heroes have reached not only the Moon, but also Mars. Is there life on the red planet? Are there conditions favorable to man? How does the fourth planet from the sun actually fare when confronted with the prevailing nineteenth century perceptions about it? You will find the answers to these questions in the Knights of Mars .

Nie tego się spodziewałam

From the Star Castle, I expected adventure above all. What did I get? A somewhat melancholic story, however, fits in with the romantic spirit of the era in which Alex Alice set the action of the comic. It is therefore a coherent story, which should undoubtedly be considered an advantage. However, I ran out of the proverbial fireworks. I hope that the action will kick in in the next volume – and there are many indications of that.

The way Alex Alice places the presented story in historical realities deserves praise, thanks to which the whole thing is quite credible. Although I must admit that demonizing the Prussians is in my opinion quite funny. 

Graphics at the highest level

As in the case of the first volume, the drawings are of the highest quality in the subsequent editions of the series. The watercolor charts fit the script perfectly. The pages where Alex Alice presents space and the moon are definitely the most impressive. The artistic qualities of the Star Castle make it a perfect gift idea not only for a comic book enthusiast, but also a good series to start your adventure with graphic novels.

In the second and third volumes of the Star Castle, the author maintains the high level he presented to the readers in the first comic. I’m already looking forward to the sequel!
