Herbert is one of the most famous science fiction writers. His Dune Chronicles series has been described as what The Lord of the Rings is for the fantasy genre .

Frank Herbert made his debut as a writer in 1947, but was not yet involved in science fiction. He published his first short story of this genre seven years later, but it was not until 1956 that he published the novel Dragon in the Sea , which brought him recognition.

Dune was issued from 1963 to 1965 in sections. Her book edition quickly won the acclaim of fans and critics, and Herbert received the Hugo and Nebula awards.

Herbert’s novels took place in the distant future, but technology was always the background. The writer focused mainly on human nature, in his stories he explored psychology, theology and philosophy, and even promoted ecology.

He managed to write six volumes of Dune before his death in 1986. However, he left behind extensive enough notes that the story could be continued by his son, Brian, with the help of writer Kevin J. Anderson. Their latest book, Dune Navigators, was released in 2016.

So far, Dune has been filmed twice. David Lynch (pictured next to Herbert in the photo) did it first. The movie premiered in 1984 and is considered a strange experiment to this day, even for Lynch’s abilities. In 2000, another film adaptation was made, this time in the form of a mini-series. However, none of the views went beyond the first volume of the series. We are currently waiting for the premiere of the next version next year, this time directed by Denis Villeneuve.
