When Terminator: Dark Fate brought back Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and original director James Cameron as producer, the project was poised to revive the sci-fi franchise, only to be met with disappointing results. While no official updates on the series have been released since then, Cameron reportedly told Dell Tech World that he has started writing a new script and is waiting to see how the AI develops before investing in it further. Between the writers’ strike and the director’s involvement in Avatar 3 , we shouldn’t expect significant updates to the project in the near future, but Cameron seems to be thrilling fans by taking a more hands-on approach to the title.

So James Cameron just told the Dell Tech World crowd that he started writing a new Terminator movie, 3 months ago, but wants to see how AI develops before moving on.
Artificial intelligence has always been a key element of the series, starting with the original Terminator in 1984. Given that the title has always offered a heightened and exaggerated version of tech threats, it’s unclear if Cameron is waiting to see how the tech realities play out or whether he wants to make sure he doesn’t tackle any concepts that could easily be disproven.
While Cameron is still involved with the series, Schwarzenegger recently confirmed that his time with the installment has come to an end.
The series is not over. I finished. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move forward with a different theme when it comes to Terminator . Someone has to come up with a great idea. The Terminator was largely responsible for my success, so I always looked at it with affection. The first three movies were great. The next fifth [ Genisys ] and the sixth [ Dark Destiny ] didn’t make a deal as far as I ‘m concerned . We knew about it beforehand because they just weren’t well written.
