Garcia and Picolo
The authors of this issue are talented and internationally renowned artists – Kami Garcia ( Unbreakable , Unmarked, X-Files Origins: Agent of Chaos , The Lovely Reckless , Beautiful Broken Hearts ) and Gabriel Picolo. The world depicted in graphics will surely appeal to young readers who will appreciate the meticulousness and artistic flair of the illustrator, while Garcia is known for creative novels for young people, hence we can expect content at a very high level. Picolo undoubtedly delights – the drawings, just like in the first novel of the creator – Raven, are unusual, many have green accents that harmonize with the concept of the notebook. The modern world, which has been chosen for the time and place of action, offers great opportunities, but it can also turn out to be a trap for creators. In my opinion, they did great and I will gladly reach for other offers of this duo.
I’m Logan, Garfield Logan
A 17-year-old hero, characteristic of, among others, due to the green streaks in his hair, he unskillfully tries to attract the attention of his peers. Although Logan lives in a small town – Edentown, Georgia – the aspirations of his friends seem unattainable to him. The protagonist is especially afraid of the approaching end of high school, Bull Creek High School. Third grade is no joke and if Logan does not impress popular kids, he will never find out again what it is like to be among those known and liked. Logan loses himself in his pursuits and from the boy who eats pizza and plays computer games with his friends Stella and Tank, he turns into a member of the school’s elite. His transformation, however, is not only visual, but also mental – he must learn to take risks in many areas, so that his efforts would not be in vain. Unfortunately, the main character is difficult to like – his behavior often arouses incomprehension and, consequently, the reluctance of the reader. Surprisingly, the deeper you go into the forest, the better your chances of achieving your dream popularity. Goodbye sense, hello popularity!
Life can get out of hand
The volume in question was released as the fifth in the series (previously: In the Moonlight: Catwoman , Teen Titans: Raven , The Oracle Code , Wonder Woman. Herald of War ); for the first time, the protagonist is a young man. The story of a Teen Titans member it is presented in a non-intrusive way. On the one hand, we observe the transformation of the (over) sympathetic hero, on the other – we get to know the supporting characters, whose actions influence the protagonist and force him to make certain decisions. However, I would like to highlight one drawback; I’m afraid that readers – like me – while reading the comic will get the impression that the protagonist is immortal, no harm can happen to him, and his adventures will always end well. Such an idea for the production of a comic book may affect the reception of the content by young readers, because the characters, despite obvious carelessness, do not bear the consequences of their actions. All in all, the story of the young Garfield Logan may be liked, although unfortunately it lacks realism.
