Talks are underway about a live-action “Baldur’s Gate” film on Netflix

It seems that now that Henry Cavill has left the role of Geralt of Rivia, Netflix is looking for a chance to create another fantasy giant. Trusted and verified sources show that the rights to the live-action adaptation of the Baldur’s Gate game series may soon be sold to Netflix!

Baldur’s Gate is a computer game based on the Dungeons & Dragons system. So far, nine productions have been released since 1998, the latest of which is the long-awaited Baldur’s Gate 3,  which was released on many platforms and achieved quite good success in the world of RPG fans.

Netflix is probably in talks to acquire the rights to the live-action adaptation of the Baldur’s Gate game series .

We don’t know yet whether the  Baldur’s Gate project that Netflix is considering is a series or a movie, although from a narrative perspective the former seems to make the most sense. Not counting the remakes of Baldur’s Gate  and  Baldur’s Gate II in the early 2010s, the series spans nine games and over a century of story.

It’s possible that the studio isn’t too concerned about what this adaptation will look like at this point. The most important thing is whether Netflix will be able to secure exclusivity over the series. While The Witcher was still going strong, Netflix could still compete for the fantasy fans that Amazon Prime was successfully attracting, regardless of opinion, with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power .  However, with the news of Henry Cavill’s departure from  The Witcher , Netflix seems to be bringing a “spoon to the sword fight.”

Liam Hemsworth is set to take over the lead role in The Witcher , replacing Henry Cavill, but so far, fan reactions don’t allow us to hope that the show’s viewership won’t drop (if it hasn’t already) when Cavill is replaced.

Baldur’s Gate in collaboration with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?

An interesting fact about this alleged project is that Netflix would create some sort of unofficial crossover with the film from another studio. Baldur’s Gate games, like Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves  by  Paramount , take place in the same world – Forgotten Realms.

So while we’re not necessarily betting on Chris Pine or Michelle Rodriguez starring in any live-action adaptation Netflix has in mind, the production would technically take place in the same world.

Game adaptations are taking over the market

If the talks go well and the live-action Baldur’s Gate game ends up on Netflix, it will join the growing number of video game adaptations that are taking over cinema screens and streaming platforms. Productions such as the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Super Mario Bros.  and  Uncharted performed very well at the box office. Meanwhile, series such as The Last of Us from HBO and Arcane from Netflix are gaining more and more popularity, slowly moving towards becoming cult cinema classics.

If we learn more about Baldur’s Gate adaptation talks on Netflix, you’ll definitely be the first to hear about it!
