Supplementing the story – review of the comic book “Avengers: Wojna światów”, vol. 4

The War of the Worlds is one of the many great Marvel events. Of course, the famous Avengers are also involved. How did Earth’s Mightiest Heroes deal with Malekhit’s army?

But what’s the matter?

The fourth volume of the Avengers series from the Marvel Fresh series is ahead of us . If you decided to reach for it only, there is little chance that you will find yourself in the plot. It connects quite strongly with the previous issues, but most of all it is five different stories supplementing the event, which is the War of the Worlds .. It includes a more detailed representation of the group known as the American Flag Squad, created by Agent Coulson, the story of Gorilla-Man, as well as the fate of She-Hulk during the event, and the story of the Avengers team after the battle is over. Finally, there will also be an introduction to brand new adventures that this time focuses on Iron Man. You could get to know the last story before during Free Comic Book Day in 2018.

Intriguers

The War of the Worlds is an event prepared and created by Jason Aaron. Also for the fourth volume of Avengershe is responsible for the script. And because he is a talented author who apparently had everything planned in detail, we could count on an interesting adventure. Has it happened? Not exactly. Contrary to the main notebook depicting the war against Malekith’s armies, there is less assault here, and more secrets and twists are provided. Only She-Hulk does a typical blast here, but her discussions about her own “I” are less interesting than how she hits subsequent enemies. And this may prove something. The other stories in the notebook look better. Finally, we have the opportunity to take a closer look at the members of the team formed by Coulson. As it turns out, not only the former SHIELD agent is behind her. Gorilla-Man also has a lot to hide. The idyll in Mount Avengers and the presentation of relations between individual members of the Avengers is also very interesting. So the author did a great job. Although it’s a pity that some of the threads were not woven directly into the plot of the main event. So we geta tie-in that we need to buy to complete the story ourselves. Well, such treatments are of course not the first in the world of pop culture. We can complain, and we will probably reach for it anyway to get to know the full course of events.

Note up

While the plot has its ups and downs, the graphics side is really good. Ed McGuineness is responsible for three out of five stories here, and the other two were presented to us by Jason Masters and Stefano Caselli. I mentioned before that the She-Hulk fights were shown very well. Other frames are also made aesthetically, extremely colorful and in a truly superhero style. They may not contain any surprising innovations, but they are eye-catching and help you have fun reading. Egmont, on the other hand, gave us a paperback edition and, as always, with a few additional alternative covers. The price is also not excessive, so it can tempt you to buy it.

Sometimes better sometimes worse…

Avengers: War of the Worlds features several unconnected stories that allude to the main Marvel event. Just reading them can cause a few problems. The comic book should be read somewhat alternately with the War of the Worlds itself , so as not to accidentally cover some of the events. Those who counted on a closer connection with the third volume of The Avengers or the presence of Malekith on the cover will be particularly disappointed. However, the title cannot be called bad and not worth reading. It has some very good moments and introduces us to the rest of the adventure. The graphic design of the edition also deserves praise. The price is also not high, so if anyone wants to learn everything about the great battle with the Dark Elf army, this issue should also be reached.
