Studio Ghibli begins building its own amusement park. A new competition for Disney?

The creators of such animated hits as Princess Mononoke or Howl’s Moving Castle have announced the start of work on an amusement park, which will be based on the studio’s iconic productions. The first concept art is here!

Studio Ghibli continues to be at the forefront of the best animated studios in the world. The legendary Hayao Miyazaki has breathed life into many iconic works, including the Oscar-winning Spirited Away: In the Land of the Gods . Now fans of the studio’s creativity can rub their hands as Aichi’s governor Hideaki Ōmura has provided concept sketches for the emerging park via his Twitter account.

Works are to begin in July this year, and the park itself is to be put into use in 2022. The entire venture will cost over $ 100 million. According to representatives of the regional authorities, the facility will be built “without detriment to the functions and the natural environment” with the simultaneous “efficient use of unused land and existing facilities”. The choice of the place is not accidental, as there are plans to use the existing environment that will perfectly recreate that known from Kiki’s Sky Mail , Princess Mononoke and My neighbor Totoro. So we can be sure that there will be forests and green spaces that are known from movies.

At the moment, the assumptions are to divide the area into 5 zones:

Hill of Youth – here you will find the famous elevator from Howl’s Moving Castle , buildings reminiscent of the Whisper of the Heart movie and studio gadgets shops.

Dondoko Forest –las will be dedicated to the famous hero of Totoro

Mononoke Village – here a village of the Emishi tribe of Princess Mononoke will be built

Valley of the Witches – as the name suggests, the area will cover the area of the Witches Valley

Ghibli Big Warehouse – here will be a food court, exhibition space and recreational areas with a theater
