Awaken Realms has announced that it is developing a board game based on GSC Game World’s  STALKER series. The game will take place in Chernobyl.

A board game version of the popular survival horror shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Awaken Realms is in the works , the developer of popular games like  Nemesis  and  Tainted Grail has announced that it is developing a board game based on  GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. The game has been described as a cooperative “zone-crawler” that will feature multiple stories, each consisting of 2-4 scenarios. Scenarios include e.g. tactical missions and shootouts. Players will also be able to upgrade their gear and skills between scenarios, building a character that progresses as the story progresses.

STALKER is a video game series set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in an alternate universe. This zone was created by the first nuclear disaster in 1986. The second catastrophe occurred in 1996, which created strange artifacts, phenomena, and mutations. Each game in the series focuses on a different stalker (a person roaming the Zone) who follows a branching plot with different potential endings depending on which faction we side with and depending on our choices.

So far, GSC Game World has released three STALKER games, with a fourth planned for this year. STALKER 2 was initially delayed due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine (GSC Game World is a Ukrainian game studio) last year, but the studio has announced plans to release the game in 2023.
