The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report on everything. Benedict Cumberbatch will return to the role of Doctor Strange in the third Spider-Man movie in the MCU. The British actor is expected to start working on the production before his own sequel – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – which is to fully introduce the concept of parallel worlds to the Marvel movie universe. The film will be supervised by Sam Raimi, directed by the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguir in the title role.
This is not the only big news about the cast of the new Spider-Man in recent days. A little earlier, it was announced that Jamie Foxx would also appear in this picture as the Electro villain. The actor and musician has already played this character once in the Spider-Man production. It happened in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 from 2014. It is not known yet if it will be the same version of the villain that we already saw a few years ago.
Cumberbatch’s and Foxx’s returns to their comic book roles fueled theories among fans about a possible acting crossover in the style we saw in the Spider-Man Universe animation . A dream scenario for many viewers would be to see the last three actors of the spider man together on the silver screen.
Work on Spider-Man 3 is expected to start later this year, and the premiere is scheduled for December 2021.
