Fans of Verhoeven’s iconic Space Troopers have been able to enjoy additional materials in the form of films, comics, games, etc. for years. This time, Offworld Industries is preparing a new title for PCs, which will soon be released on Steam in the form of early access.
The new game Starship Troopers will appear on Steam in early access in 2023. The production titled Starship Troopers: Extermination will be an FPS in which teams of 12 players will face dangerous Insects. Players will be able to choose from three classes: Assault, Support, and Defense. In addition, you will be able to unlock new equipment and character development perks. In the game we will face five different types of Insects, on a map consisting of five zones. Not much is known about the rest of the details, except that the game is to be released only on PC. However, this does not rule out the creation of console versions in the future, according to information from the developer, Offworld Industries.
We’re currently focused on getting the game into early access on Steam, but you never know what the distant future holds.
Of course, the lack of a console version will surely disappoint some fans of the original (1997 film Space Troopers ). It should be added that this is not the first Starship Troopers game released exclusively for computers. Just a few months ago, in June, Starship Troopers: Terran Command debuted . The real-time strategy has not been released and is unlikely to be released on consoles, so let’s hope that this time Offworld will really consider the option of releasing a new installment on PlayStation or Xbox. Space Troopers hit theaters in 1997. Directed by Paul Verhoeven, this satirical film about military culture and fascism went in one ear and out the other for most reviewers, resulting in poor ratings. Despite this, the production has become a cult classic and inspired many sequels, for example in the form of comic books or video games. It remains to be seen whether Starship Troopers: Extermination will live up to the fans’ high expectations, but so far it looks promising.
