The main character of sister Ann’s exorcisms is sister Anna, convinced that her calling is to fight demons. Already as a child, she realized that she had a special gift. However, she cannot share it, because the position of the church that declares war on the forces of darkness is inexorable – only priests can be exorcists. Why? Because for women, meeting a demon is too dangerous. However, this does not discourage the sisters. In addition, her master and mentor allows Annie to participate in the training from the position of an observer. During one of the frightening sessions, a nun experiences the presence of a demon of incredible power. It will soon turn out that sister Anna is the only person able to face it …
The creators of the exorcisms of sister Ann
The horror film was directed by Daniel Stamm.
Starring: Virginia Madsen, Jacqueline Byers, Nicholas Ralph, Ben Cross.
The creators of the film Exorcisms of sister Ann were fully aware that in the Catholic Church, exorcisms can only be performed by a priest with special powers. A religious sister was even excluded from assisting in these unusual rites. In the first centuries of Christianity, there was a strong belief in the need for exorcism. In the middle of the 3rd century, a specially selected group of clergymen appeared, including: 7 deacons, 46 priests, 52 exorcists, readers and ostiaries. Even then, they were under the strict control of the bishops, which has not changed to this day.

Exorcisms in Poland
Today, exorcisms are associated mainly with a magical spectacle that arouses curiosity and fear. We have about 150 exorcists in Poland (data for 2018 – editor’s note), although a few decades earlier there were only a few of them. This means that the church does not sweep the problem of the possessed under the rug, but takes it very seriously. Especially that exorcisms in Poland are free, always preceded by an interview, also psychological and psychiatric. According to Polish specialists dealing with cases of possession, young women are the most likely victims.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that in 2007 Częstochowa was the host of the 4th International Congress of Exorcists. A few months later, in Poczernin near Szczecin, the construction of the only exorcism center in Europe – the Spiritual Aid Center “Oasis of Mary Queen of Light” began.
However, the most famous exorcist in the history of the Catholic Church was not at all a Polish clergyman.
What do we know about the most famous exorcist in history?
Gabriel Amorth, who died in 2016 at the age of 91, was considered the greatest possession specialist. An Italian priest allegedly freed up to 1,500 people from demons! In 1986 he became the official exorcist of the diocese of Rome.
Gabriel Amorth also founded an international association of exorcists. He was the author of many books. The following were published in Poland: Confessions of an Exorcist , Exorcists and Psychiatrists , Testimony of an Exorcist , Satan, Depart from Me , and the Gospel of Mary. The woman who conquered evil .
Gabriel Amorth was an extremely controversial clergyman. He criticized the Harry Potter saga , was against yoga, and recommended avoiding listening to rock music and getting tattoos. He believed that the exorcist was a profession reserved only for men. He would not have accepted the situation that the creators of the horror film Exorcism Sister Ann presented in their film.
