The Curse finally hits our TV screens. On Wednesday, Showtime released the first full trailer for the series ahead of its upcoming premiere. The live-action series, which is co-created by Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, has been highly anticipated among TV fans since it was announced. In the series, husband and wife duo Asher Siegel (Fielder) and Whitney Siegel (Emma Stone) are forced to battle dark magical forces while filming a home renovation show on the HGTV network.
The first three episodes of The Curse will premiere to select audiences later this week when they screen at the New York Film Festival on September 30.
What is The Curse about ?
The Curse is a genre-bending series that explores how an alleged curse disrupts the relationship of a newlywed trying to conceive a child while starring together in a new home improvement show. Starring Oscar winners Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie. Guest stars include Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi, Emmy nominee Corbin Bernsen and Constance Shulman.
Produced by A24, The Curse is co-created and produced by Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder, who also serves as director. Emma Stone executive produces with Dave McCary and Ali Herting under their Fruit Tree banner. Josh Safdie also serves as executive producer.
Will the trial resume in season 2?
The Curse isn’t the only unpredictable series Fielder is attached to. His work on HBO’s The Rehearsal sent shockwaves through the television world last year. The genre-bending (and reality-bending) series was renewed for a second season just before the Season 1 finale.
Nathan sparked such a lively conversation with The Rehearsal. We have no idea where Season 2 will take us, and that’s the joy of this boundary-pushing series from a truly unique talent.
– said HBO Programming Vice President Amy Gravitt.
What are Emma Stone’s new movies?
Later this year, Stone will also star in Poor Things , a new film by Yorgos Lathimos based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name. In the film, a young woman, Bella, is brought back to life by her guardian, scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. Initially naive, Bella longs to explore the world around her, albeit under Baxter’s protection. Wanting to see more, she runs away with Duncan Wedderburn, a skillful and dissolute lawyer, and travels across continents. Free from the prejudices of her time, Bella demands equality and liberation.
Poor Things also stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott and Jerrod Carmichael.
The Curse will stream on Showtime and Paramount+ to Showtime subscribers on Friday, November 10, then premiere on Showtime on November 12.
