Sherlock Holmes will face Cthulhu in a new video game

Developer Frogwares continues his long-running Sherlock Holmes video game franchise by pitting a world-renowned detective against Cthulhu and the cult of believers. Frogwares has made a name for itself in the mid-budget videogame space with the Sherlock Holmes franchise and other titles like The Sunken City, managing the release of highly creative detective themed games that help fill the void left by titles like LA Noire. Frogwares has been a huge success, but has recently encountered production problems as the studio is located in Ukraine. Even though its employees are actively fighting the war, Frogwares recently received a grant from Epic Games that was used to help relocate and provide stability to the developer's employees.

Frogwares is already working on Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened , a semi-open remake of the game the studio created in 2006. He is currently the sequel to Sherlock Homes Chapter One . While the idea of Holmes facing a supernatural force such as Cthulhu seems exaggerated, Frogwares will use it to explain the close bond shared by Watson and Holmes and why Holmes is so restless as an adult. As this is a remake, the story will be rewritten to strengthen its ties to newer entries in the series, refine the relationship between Holmes and Watson, and add deeper gameplay among other things.Frogwares also plans to use crazy premises and puzzles throughout the game to burden Holmes, showing how it destroys his physical and mental health. The game developer launched a Kickstarter to help mitigate the risks associated with the war in Ukraine and other circumstances that had already exceeded its $ 71,140 goal.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is currently scheduled for release in 2023 for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game is to be released only digitally at the moment.
