The second season of the series did not have an easy start. While it is certainly a title that Netflix has high hopes for, the events of the previous year caused delays in starting its production. Eventually, however, there was a light in the tunnel of fans’ hope, and the filming of Geralt of Rivia’s story ended in April this year.
The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich informed about the progress of work on her Twitter account. And it was from her Monday entry that we could learn the latest news from behind the scenes of the production:
Back in London. Back in the (small, dark, noisy) rooms where the going is. Right, we’re deep in the post-production of Season Two of The Witcher, and I’m fucking excited.
This means the show is one step closer to premiere, but there is still a lot of work to do for his team. The post-production stage primarily involves editing recordings, processing and adding sound, or applying special effects. Those who are waiting for the second season of The Witcher will have to wait, although it is possible that the first trailer of the series or official promotional photos will appear in some time.
The first season of production was about Geralt of Rivia, a witcher – a monster hunter – from the Wolf school, a sorceress close to his heart, Yennefer from Vengerberg, and princess Cirilla, with whom he was connected by destiny. The plot was based on the collections of short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Last Wish and the Sword of Destiny , but the series did not lack novelties that expanded some of the threads or allowed for a better understanding of individual characters. More attentive viewers could also notice references to the popular series of RPGs from the Witcher universe .
Season Two’s main characters will feature the same faces we met in Season One – Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey. The cast will be joined by actors such as Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Basil Eidenbenz as Eskel, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen and Mecia Simson as Francesca Findabair.
At the moment, the exact release date of the second season is unknown, although Netflix has confirmed that it should be expected in the fourth quarter of 2021, somewhere between October and December.
