The originator of the Scooby-Doo series was Fred Silverman, the legendary TV producer who decided in the late 1960s that he was fed up with superhero stories. He decided to produce a new series that would be a combination of a crime fiction, comedy and an adventure film. He introduced his idea to William Hanna and Joseph Barbara, who in turn commissioned Ken Spears and Joe Ruby to come up with the characters and write scripts for several episodes. The first project – titled Mysteries Five – was dismissed by station chairman Frank Stanton as being too dark and scary for children, but that didn’t put Silverman off. During one of the official flights, the producer accidentally heard a song by Frank Sinatra Strangers in the Nightin which the phrase Dooby-Dooby-Doo is heard. This inspired him to create a new character and at the same time change the title and overall concept of the series to a more comedic one.

The first episode of the adventures of Scooby and his friends was broadcast in 1969, after two weeks becoming the leader in terms of viewership. The following episodes quickly won the hearts of the children and their guardians. More than 50 years have passed since then, and the popularity of the adventures of the members of the Secret Company is still huge!

WHO BELONGS TO THE DETECTIVE BRIGADE:

SCOOBY-DOO

Scooby-Doo is a great Great Dane with an even greater appetite, reluctantly chasing ghosts and monsters with the rest of the Detective Brigade. He is always ready for adventures, but prefers activities that result in a great feast. When friends need him, Scooby-Doo rushes to the rescue! His best friend is Shaggy – you can often meet these two when they run away from the monster or eat sandwiches in the Mystery Machine.

Shaggy ROGERS

Shaggy is the greedy, flimsy and cowardly member of the brigade, but his friendship with Scooby-Doo allows him to get through difficult times. He may run away as soon as it gets dangerous, but when it comes to helping friends, he never disappoints! Kudlaty’s specialty is overeating, but he also has a unique talent – he is a great ventriloquist, which often helped the Detective Brigade get out of trouble!

FRED JONES

Fred is the binder of the entire Detective Brigade and is always a few steps ahead of the monster’s plans. He treats puzzles like a chess match and loves to plan brilliant, complicated traps for ghosts, vampires and other creatures!

VELMA DINKLEY

Velma is the brain behind the Detective Brigade. Thanks to his analytical mind, he quickly decodes the meaning of clues. The group tries to stick together, but Velma often prefers to look for another trail on her own. Scooby-Doo’s weakness is snacks, and Velma’s weakness – her glasses. Without her black rimmed lenses, she is almost completely blind!

DAPHNE BLAKE

Beautiful, brave and intelligent, Daphne is the most enthusiastic person in the Detective Brigade. She never goes anywhere without a camera and a notebook, because in the future she wants to become either a famous crime writer or an investigative journalist. It’s hard to say if she or Velma is the bravest of the Brigade, but it’s definitely Daphne who gets into trouble the most. She is not afraid of being pushed into difficult situations, so lucky she has practiced martial arts!
