Ryan Reynolds is a Guy after all – Free Guy DVD Review

Each of us knows games such as GTA. Productions in which the player demolish cities and murders crowds of NPCs with impunity. But what would happen if such an NPCs suddenly started fighting back? What if they took away the weapons from players and started writing his own story?

Adventures of an NPC

This is more or less the story of this explosive comedy signed with the face of the irreplaceable Ryan Reynolds. Because it is this actor, who gained world fame as an immortal mercenary who constantly breaks the fourth wall, who plays Guy. This hero is an independent character in the game. According to his software, he gets up every day, goes to work in the bank, he calmly allows himself to be robbed by other players completing missions, drinks the same tasteless coffee and dreams of buying shoes that he can never afford. One day, however, Guy discovers that he is not like all NPCs. Moreover, he can decide his own fate!

A plot of our time

This is a story as improbable as it is for our time. Older viewers would not understand practically most of the gags or references appearing here without knowing, even to a minimal extent, the world of video games. The film is full of allusions not only to various console productions, such as the one mentioned in the GTA headline , but also to popular culture in general. Hopefully I won’t destroy anyone’s surprise by saying that Star Wars themes are featured here , and that the guest appearance is included in … Captain America! Exactly, if we forget for a moment the conventions of the various universes, we could say that the most famous defender of the USA meets Deadpool here! Let’s set aside these requests and see why this simple video is so good.

One actor show

The power of this production is Ryan Reynolds. You can say it straightforwardly, because this actor has proven many times that he can bear the weight of the entire film with his presence alone. Here, the comedian does two and three steps to show the ridiculousness of a conscious independent figure. What’s more, he didn’t have to try that hard, because the rest of the cast are also doing great, and the idea of the film defends itself. Taika Waititi and Joe Keery make the perfect duo depicting the diabolical owner of a gaming studio and a defrauded programmer. Only Jodie Comer did not fully convince me here with her role of a girl who falls in love with an NPC. However, she is not annoying in her creation, so we can forgive her.

Explosive mixture

Free Guy is a production that is full of action and humor. Presenting the universe of a computer game from the inside allowed the creators a freedom that we have not seen before. Explosions, transformations, crazy characters, out of this world vehicles, monsters, mutants – this movie has it all! Also the humorous aspect of the production was done really well. The episodic roles of actors such as Channing Tatum put a smile on the face, and their collaboration with Reynolds shows the highest level of comedy. It has not happened for a long time that I genuinely laugh during a screening. Here it worked. If you don’t believe me, then see for yourself how Guy played by Reynolds tries to assume his “sinister pose” while sitting on the hood of the car.

DVD Edition

The DVD release in Poland is the work of the Galapagos . The company provided us with the highest quality image and many options for choosing the soundtrack and possible subtitles. We won’t experience any extras here, but the cover design itself makes a great impression. The spirit of the movie has been preserved and the Free Guy DVD release is sure to be the highlight of any collection.

The right attitude is the key to success

Despite my praise, it is important to remember to approach the film appropriately. It is not a demanding session for a serious meeting. This is a surprisingly good, light production to watch with your friends over the weekend. Free Guy is characterized by great acting and a nod to pop culture with numerous references. If you like to catch the so-called Easter eggs and Ryan Reynolds, you won’t be disappointed.
