DC announced a new comic spinoff “Watchmen” focused on the character of Rorschach. The title is to debut later this year.
The series, simply titled Rorschach, will be produced by screenwriter Tom King and artist Jorge Fornés. The whole is to consist of twelve issues, and the first of them will go on sale in October. Fornés will be the author of the basic cover and Jae Lee will be the variant. The cycle will be part of the so-called DC Black Label, the story contained in it, will not be woven into the main comic universe.
According to a press release released by DC, the story is set to take place 35 years after the original. Rorschach will return as the killer of President Robert Redford’s first political opponent in many years. The detective handling his case will have to travel back in time to discover the identities and motives of potential murderers. At the same time, he will delve into the world of conspiracies about alien invasion, discredited crime killers, mystical visions, and also … comics.
As with other Watchmen spinoffs , the creators of the original – Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons – did not take part in the creation of the new series. This is due to the conflict between Moore and DC. Despite criticism from fans, the publishing house still earns well on the brand, and this is evidenced a recent series that was quite successful.
