A dog’s life? Perfect!
Kenji Yarahata is a teenager who is cursed. If he doesn’t stop being a virgin soon then… he’ll be forever! To avoid this fate, the deceased grandfather sends his grandson to help in the form of a teacher named Aiya. During his lifetime, he was a great seducer and developed a dozen different “love theories”, which are to make even the most shy or least handsome men drag women to bed. The problem is that Kenji already has a friend of his heart, a friend named Saki, and wants no other.
This is a brief overview of the first two volumes of the ecchi manga series, The Theory of Love . In the third volume, the main character is still trying to win his beloved, although his teacher counts more that the boy will simply stop being a virgin. So he looks for more candidates and gives him more pickup lessons. Meanwhile, he gains a new apprentice – Kenji’s friend named Waseda. The latter, in turn, tries to pick up a certain Morishita. To do this, the lecturer from the beyond will not hesitate to turn the new student into a dog!
Volume 3 of Theory of Love is still highly perverted, but fun at the same time. Aiya and Kenji’s grandfather throw lyrics in the style of a slimy uncle, and at the same time take advantage of the fact that for most people they are invisible and look at young girls’ necklines and skirts. The cartoonist is also starting to cross the borders of the ecchi genre a bit and decided to show one of the protagonists’ naked ass and protruding nipple. This, however, is nothing compared to what Waseda does in the form of a dog. Relax, there’s no zoophilia, but we’re just one step from there. We also have an awkward moment with him pooping. So it’s weird, a bit awkward, but the developers ultimately come out unscathed.
On the beach? It’s fun at the beach!
In the fourth volume of The Theory of Love , the heroes go to the seaside, where girls in skimpy bathing suits tempt naughty thoughts, and Aiya has the opportunity to teach her student more lessons. Kanji also learns a lot about Saki’s past. Most importantly, however, he finally has the opportunity to stop being a virgin!
The further we go into the manga story, the more serious it gets. Of course, we are still accompanied by jokes and sexual overtones, but there are less of them. Plus, a few of them repeat themselves, so they’re no longer surprising or fun. Our main character gets closer and closer to his beloved. We have the opportunity to find out why she is still closed to all deeper feelings. The creators also put Yarahata in a very positive light. He has sex with a drunk friend at his fingertips, but he manages to hold back and show that he has a romantic soul and can act differently than many other men.
And they lived happily ever after?
The fifth volume of The Theory of Love is the end of the story. Yarahata finally reveals her feelings to Saki, but she rejects him. The boy, however, does not give up and, driven by strong feelings, fights to win his beloved’s heart. Once again, he is also very close to his first time. We also learn about Aiya’s story, which turns out to be not as beautiful as this teacher from the underworld used to describe!
In the last part of the manga, the creators continue the trend of making the title more and more serious. There are fewer and fewer strange and unequivocal situations, but we are starting to witness a true and romantic love story. At the very end, more sensitive people may even be moved. This is how ecchi turns into a romantic comedy with… or a happy happy ending? I don’t want to reveal what’s going on there, so I need to check you in person!
The point of view depends on the volume
The first volumes of The Theory of Lovethey are full of erotic overtones, bouncing breasts and awkward jokes, both verbal and situational. There are also so-called biscuits. Some snippets are downright creepy or are already rubbing against porn. The further into the plot, the more serious it gets. We begin to understand and appreciate the main character. Shy people and with souls of romantics may even begin to identify with Yarahata, and his adventures may seem to us drawn from our lives. I know this from my own experience. We will also notice how all of Aiya’s theories are twisted, ridiculed and effective, albeit in a different way than what the spirit claims. We finally get a nice romantic comedy with some pretty good lessons that we’ll appreciate after reading the whole thing. So if you think this is exaggerated ecchi for teenagers, be sure to read through to the end!

The authors of The Theory of Love are Mizuno Keiya and Satou Masaki. The first is the author of tutorials on seduction and operates under the pseudonym Aiya. The second, on the other hand, decided to write a few words from himself at the end of the manga and confess that he himself was extremely shy for a long time, and that he created the character of Yarahata on his own example. So you can see that the duo of the main characters was not created by accident. It is also worth adding that Masaki’s letter addressed to fans not only reveals the secrets of the title itself, but also perfectly complements the plot. His thanks can also touch the heart and make us appreciate the title even more.
