Rian Johnson already had a glimpse into the iconic  Star Wars universe while working on The Last Jedi . While rumors of the director making a new Star Wars trilogy have died down a bit, Johnson confirmed in a new interview that he is still in talks with Kathleen Kennedy about new projects.

It’s been almost five years since Rian Johnson set about making The Last Jedi. Word was already circulating at the time that the director was also set to create a brand new trilogy, in which he would introduce new characters “from a corner of the galaxy that  Star Wars history has never explored before.” The discussions died down over time while Johnson moved on to other projects, such as  Knives Out starring Daniel Craig and a sequel titled  Glass Onion . The third movie Knives Out is currently in the production phase. Despite his busy schedule, Rian Johnson does not lose hope that one day he will return to work on  Star Wars . In an interview with Varietyduring the release of  Glass Onion , the director described working on The Last Jedi as an important stage in his life.

Making  Star Wars was the highlight of my life, so I still pray to God that one day I’ll get back to it.

As for the concept of the next trilogy, Johnson said last month that he had spoken with Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. Both sides are said to be in constant contact, but the director is currently focusing on Knives Out .

I talked about it [with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] and we’re still talking about it. I had an amazing experience shooting The Last Jedi. It’s just an organizational issue. For me, releasing this [ Glass Onion ] and filming more [sequels  to Knives Out ] the answer is I don’t know.

Knives Out 2/Glass Onion  is the story of billionaire Miles Bron inviting his friends (including Detective Benoit Blanc) to a ‘mystery murder party’ on the private Greek island of Glass Onion. But when it turns out that someone really died, Blanc must solve the mystery and discover who committed the crime. Also starring are Edward Norton as Miles Bron, Janelle Monáe as Cassandra “Andi” Brand, Kathryn Hahn as Claire Debella, Leslie Odom Jr. as Lionel Toussaint, Jessica Henwick as Peg, Madelyn Cline as Whiskey, Kate Hudson as Birdie Jay, Dave Bautista as Duke Cody and Ethan Hawke in a currently unknown role.
