20 years after the premiere of the first installment of the Young Wizard series, fans were finally able to return to Hogwarts and learn about the previously unseen stories from the set.
As it turned out after the premiere of Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts, Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), to whom Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) inadvertently damaged the eardrum on the set of the Order of the Phoenix , was not the only actor injured during the shooting. A similar event took place much earlier, during the recording of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
The incident happened already in the first scene recorded with Jason Isaacs playing the role of Lucius Malfoy. It can therefore be said that the actor felt seriously into the role of the insensitive, haughty Death Eater. Fifteen-year-old Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), with whom Isaacs participated in a scene depicting a visit to a Borgin and Burkes store, was injured.
Harry, who accidentally found himself on the Street of Death Nocturne, watched from his hiding place as Lucius Malfoy hit Draco’s hand with his cane. The actor playing the role of Lucius, however, did not know how sharp the prop is. He returned to this situation in Return to Hogwarts , available in Poland on the HBO GO platform.
Draco touched something, and I slapped the stick against his hand, saying, ‘don’t touch anything.’ I didn’t realize she was really sharp. It plunged right into the hand of little Tom, who looked at me with teary eyes. I immediately said, “Tom, sorry, I had no idea” and he replied, “It’s alright, okay.”
Tom Felton himself admitted that working with the film Lucius evoked conflicting feelings in him. Jason Isaacs was instantly transforming from a tender, caring friend to a dry wizard, and as Felton recalled, “the most unpleasant man he has ever met.” After all, this accident undoubtedly gave realism to the scene in which we see Lucius Malfoy for the first time – even if the creators eventually decided to remove it.
