Beware Monsters is the final volume of a trilogy by Rafael Rosado and Jorge Aguirre.
It is quiet, but is it really?
It seems that there are no monsters lurking in the area with which the saucy red-haired heroine Claudette would have to fight. The city organizes a warriors’ tournament, in which the girl of course takes part, along with her most faithful companions: the daughter of the Marquis Marie, armed with the power of diplomacy, and a magic cook named Gaston. Thanks to Marie’s father, the tournament changes its character and becomes terribly boring
venture. Soon, however, among the rivaling teams, someone with evil intentions will appear, and the threat will turn out to be much greater than anyone could have guessed.
Lots of action and humor
Beware, I associate monsters primarily with Disney cartoons presented in comic book form. The notebook is pleasant, simple and presented in an accessible form. It has a good and wise message, as is the case with fairy tales. The comic book is the perfect choice for the whole family, but younger readers will get the most out of it. Which doesn’t mean that adults won’t find something for themselves. Beware, monsters is undemanding entertainment, filled with a lot of likeable heroes and a fast pace of action. Aguirre, the author of the script, enjoys mixing elements reminiscent of the Middle Ages and references to modern times, and his humor can also appeal to an older reader who understands more than a child. The quite simple graphic style used by Rosado may at times seem too simplistic, but the artist cannot be denied his technique. The drawings are not overly colorful and can be remembered. I also cannot fault the edition – nice, with stripes on non-slip paper. I did not notice any glaring errors in the translation either. At the end of the volume, we have a look behind the scenes, which is a very nice addition.
Summary
I think any Disney fan will enjoy what both Beware, Monsters , and the previous volumes about little Claudette’s adventures have to offer . To follow the events of the third volume, we do not need to know the previous ones. The series has ended satisfactorily, and the ending does not preclude Claudette from returning with her company. As for the message that he leaves behind Beware, monsters , you have to discover them on your own, which I strongly encourage you to do. It will definitely not be time wasted.
