At just five years old, Remus Lupine was attacked by Fenrir Greyback. This event had tragic consequences for the innocent boy, turning him into a formidable werewolf. However, this did not stop Remus from wanting to receive a reliable, complete education, and so in 1971 he and his other freshmen faced a grading tiara. He was then assigned to Gryffindor along with James, Sirius and Peter, with whom they soon formed a pack of best friends. Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, supported his student in all possible ways, enabling him to transform in the nearby Screaming Shack. The terrifying howl, accompanying this place during every full moon, started the legend of the local presence of ghosts.
When his friends found out about Remus’ condition, they did not turn him off as he expected. On the contrary. Especially for him, in their fifth year, they became illegal Animagi to accompany Lupine through painful and unpleasant transformations. Together, they formed a pack of Marauders, causing a lot of trouble for teachers, and bullying Severus Snape in their spare time. Remus was the only one in the group to be appointed prefect, not least because of his exemplary grades. He was the calmest of his colleagues, and they all hoped he would be able to take control of the rest.
After graduating from Hogwarts, he and his friends joined the fight against Lord Voldemort, becoming full members of the Order of the Phoenix. However, James was soon murdered, Sirius was arrested and thrown into Azkaban, and Peter faked his death. So he was left alone. He began a wandering, modest life, often accepting jobs that degrade his abilities. However, he was afraid to get involved in anything, knowing that he would probably have to quit because of his condition.
He found shelter, again at Hogwarts, where he got a job as a teacher of defense against the dark arts. He only held this position for a year, but during that time he met the son of his deceased friend and again met Sirius, who had turned out to be innocent. When it turned out that Voldemort had returned, he joined the Order’s activities again. After his friend’s death, he became involved in the most dangerous activities, which disturbed Nymphadora Tonks, a friend of Remus and soon his wife.
Remus Lupine died along with Nymphadora during the Battle of Hogwarts, bereaved his son, Teddy. His godfather was Harry Potter, who looked after the boy so that he would not feel lonely. After his death, he was also awarded the Order of Merlin, First Class, as the first werewolf in history. His life had a profound effect on the subsequent lives of other infected with the curse, removing most of the accompanying stigma from them.
