Those who have seen Eternals may have turned to an interesting post-credits scene where Blade’s return and collaboration with the Black Knight (Kit Harrington) were hinted at. New reports, however, say that this idea may be heavily curtailed in the upcoming Blade reboot .
It looks like Dane Whitman – the Avenger better known as the Black Knight – may have a limited part in at least one upcoming Marvel production . New information suggests that a big role in Blade previously belonged to actor Kit Harington, first introduced in Eternals . Now, after a few rewrites, it looks like Whitman and his Ebony Blade will play a minor role in the film, if at all.
Someone contacted us and said Blade made things a bit better. Things took shape, the script is leaner and meaner, the fat was cut out of it, but the script I heard was like 87 pages, like it wasn’t enough and they shaved it to the bone.
– said Jeff Sneider in a recent episode of The Hot Mic.
Sneider also added:
I heard it was cut that Blade is to be merged with Eternals and Kit Harington’s Black Knight. Black Knight isn’t really involved with Blade anymore. They can redo a few things, including maybe a daughter, was there a 14 year old girl? They can redo it.
How was the Eternals supposed to intersect with Blade ?
During one of the post-credit scenes in the film by director Chloe Zhao, Whitman (Harington) opens a chest to find a familiar heirloom known as the Ebony Blade. He is then interrupted by an off-screen voice, which has since been identified by Marvel Studios as the voice of the Daylighter (Mahershala Ali). Last year, Eternals’ head of VFX , Stephane Ceretti, confirmed that this was very intentional .
The funny thing is that my right-hand man on the show, Mårten Larsson, my additional supervisor, will soon be overseeing Blade . So I told him, ‘I’m giving you this as a gift, use it wisely and make good use of it.’ But I’m sure it will actually be even better.
The premiere of Blade is scheduled for September 6, 2024.
