This Irish director made his debut in the pantheon of recognized horror filmmakers last year with The Hole in the Ground , about a mother who moves with her son to the Irish countryside. As always, strange things start to happen and the boy is traded for a terrifying creature that takes the form of her child. Changelings are creatures not only from Irish mythology.
Raimi himself is creating a project that also uses mythologies, but this time urban. 50 States of Fright is a series of short horror films for the Quibi platform (to be viewed on mobile devices). Each episode is about some terrifying urban legend set in a different US state.
Good viewership results Holes in the Earth convinced Raimi that it is worth giving fresh, um … blood a chance and together with Cronin to make another project from the 50 States series … Lee Cronin in this series created 13 Steps to Hell – a story about a haunted staircase in a cemetery in the state of Washington. The cooperation turned out to be a success, so the gentlemen followed the blow and decided to make another film from the Evil Dead series together , called Evil Dead Rise . However, it will not be a return to old characters (goodbye Ash and Mia …) or scenery (goodbye, cabin in the woods …), but something completely new. Apparently, the action is to take place in a skyscraper.
Let’s see what Cronin himself says:
For me, the key thing that I keep remembering when I’m in the trenches working on something is making sure it’s a roller coaster. I need to be sure it has twists and is emotional and engaging. All in all, back to what I just said, I wanted to create a roller coaster of terror (…) To bring it down to an even simpler thing, it’s an experience. It must be a horror experience. And that’s the key, and that’s what I’m trying to achieve.
Evil Dead fans fear that what was good will be spoiled. But let’s hope that the Irish soul of Lee Cronin will not be tame in concrete. The premiere will probably be in 2021. Are you getting ready?
