In just a few days, Galapagos will launch a superhero comedy set in the DC universe on the Blu-ray and DVD market.
Shazam! it hit theaters in March this year and was enthusiastically received by both viewers and reviewers. The production was praised for bringing a light tone to the cinematic DC universe. On August 14, David F. Sandberg’s film will be available for sale on optical media.
In the film we get to know the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), an alienated teenager who cannot find a place in successive foster families. His life changes drastically when he is chosen by an ancient wizard to be the new protector of humanity. Since then, by uttering the words “Shazam”, the boy turns into a superhero with the appearance of a muscular adult male (Zachary Levi). However, there is still an inner child in the body, and Billy uses these new powers mainly for entertainment. However, he will soon have to face the sinister forces of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
Interestingly, one of the biggest challenges in production was creating the costume of the title character. As designer Leah Butler recalls:
Working on a superhero costume begins with gathering information and developing a design. There was scanned all editions of Shazam comics since the 1940s. Then the illustrators started working on their film version. After an actor is cast in a role, details are worked out to relate the illustrations to the characteristics of a specific person. Then we make scans of the entire body of each actor, which is the beginning of the process of developing costume designs based on their physical structure. Each muscle is put into a computer program so that we can transform the information obtained into digital form
