Mordimer Madderdin’s Russian adventure comes to an end. Has the Russian trilogy managed to maintain an even level?
Surprising solutions
In the first two volumes, we accompanied Mordimer on his military expeditions. After many skirmishes and intrigues, it seems that the situation couldn’t get any more complicated. Here a helping hand is extended by the witches I met earlier. The price to pay for their friendship may turn out to be too high. The author warned readers not to get too attached to the heroes. If you haven’t listened, your reading may make you feel sad. Many heads will fly in the last volume of the Russian trilogy.
More actions
In Cursed Destiny, the action starts off the hoof. Almost all events and threads were successfully linked together. There is even a rationale as to why Mordimer does not remember his Ruthenian adventures in the volumes that take place later. There are also some surprising twists in the plot. Unfortunately, there was also a lot of disappointment. The relationship between Mordimer and his beloved Natasha ended too quickly. Through the last volumes, we were able to observe the relationship that was being developed between them. At the very end of the story, I was counting on something that would tear my heart out of my chest and make it hard for me to recover. Shame.
At the end of the book, the author placed extensive afterword. In it, he outlines his ambitious visions regarding the development of his universe. Let’s hope they can be fulfilled. In addition, we get the backstage of the creation of the Russian trilogy, where we can observe how the themes and characters of the series have changed.
Summary
Despite some reservations, I consider Cursed Destiny to be the best part of the Russian trilogy and one of the best books by Jacek Piekara in recent times. He can draw you in like a Russian swamp, play the reader on emotions and allow you to experience an amazing adventure. The whole trilogy turned out to be a very interesting cutscene before returning to the sequel all fans have been waiting for.
