Pokemon Trading Card Game has revealed an official first look at Charizard and Revavroom’s new card. They were part of the promotional racks sent to several retailers to promote the upcoming set due for release in August. It’s worth noting that the new Ex Charizard card is one of three ex Tera Pokemon cards in the new set that is a type that deviates from normal Pokemon. While Charizard is almost always depicted as a Fire-type Pokemon, here it is a Dark-type card. Interestingly, it still uses Fire-type energy, but is weak against Grass-type Pokemon cards. (Most Dark-type cards are weak against Dark-type cards.)
The Obsidian Flames bundle will also include Fire-type Eiscue ex and Electric-type Tyranitar. This is the first expected change to the Pokemon card design, to show how rastallized Pokemon often take on a different type than their normal species. The first two sets of cards in the Scarlet & Violet series featured a handful of old Tera-type Pokemon cards, but they all stayed with their normal types. Interestingly, Obsidian Flames will be the second ex-Charizard to be released in the Pokemon Trading Card Game , following the release of a Fire-type ex-Charizard in the upcoming Scarlet Violet -151 set.
Obsidian Flames also includes the new Miraidon ex and Koraidon ex cards, signaling that the Pokemon Trading Card Game is convenient for creating multiple ex cards for popular Pokemon cards.
The Obsidian Flames expansion for the Pokemon Trading Card Game will be released in August.
