Twilight Empire
What to celebrate the Day of Board Games if not an “ultimate game”, ie Twilight Imperium. Unfortunately, the dream will not be fulfilled. Playing with less than 6 players seems incomplete, and in the current situation, socializing, at least in my group, has been severely limited.
However, if we managed to collect Twilight Imperium (both in the third and fourth editions), it offers everything I expect from a board game. We have economics and resource management, technological development and territorial expansion; we build a fleet, vote in the galactic senate, trade goods and favors.
Added to this is the optimization of movements, playing over the table and waiting for the right moment to coordinate the attack. The main difficulty in this game is learning to let go. If the complete destruction of the opponent or the development of a given technology does not bring us benefits in points, it is usually not worth wasting resources on it.
The recently announced addition to the fourth edition of the game will allow you to play 8 people, which was already possible in the third edition and I managed to play it even once. The emotions were amazing only for the first 8 hours. Later the game just dragged on.
Still, I would repeat it. – Jarek Wójcicki
