It’s only a matter of time before Disney informs us about the next part of the iconic series. The quality of the Pirates films declined somewhat after director Gore Verbinski left, but they continued to be box office hits.
There are many fans who are hoping to see more Pirates movies in the future, especially as Disney+ promises to release new stories. However, if Pirates of the Caribbean returns, some of the iconic cast will not return with them.
Keira Knightley , who first played Elizabeth Swan in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, sees no way to return to the series in the future. When asked about it by Entertainment Tonight , Knightley said she thought Elizabeth already had a good ending and wouldn’t want to change that by doing more. Elizabeth Swan had a pretty definitive ending in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the third film in the series. Will had done his duty as captain of the Flying Dutchman by sailing away and leaving Elizabeth behind. The film’s post-credits scene revealed that Elizabeth and Will had a son.
However, this was not Knightley’s last performance as Elizabeth Swan. The actress returned 10 years later to appear in the 2017 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge . The film was largely about Will Turner and his son, and a post-credits scene had Will and Elizabeth back together. Their reunion also foreshadowed Davy Jones’s potential return in a sixth film, but that one has yet to be made.
Unlike Knightley, Orlando Bloom has expressed interest in reprising his role as Will Turner, recently saying that he would like to star in the Pirates franchise again . Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also hinted that he would like Johnny Depp to return in the sequel.
