The world of heroes and Greek mythology is coming to Disney +! Work on the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been going on for years, as author Rick Riordan first confirmed in May 2020 that the series reboot is on its way. James Bobin ( Alice Through the Looking Glass ) and Walker Scobell ( The Adam Project ) have since joined the project, and eight-month shooting has begun in Vancouver. Details about the first season are unknown, but fans suspect it will follow the events of the first installment of Riordan’s book series – Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief .

However, this does not mean that Disney + will adapt everything in turn. Producer Becky Riordan has confirmed that at least one “non-book scene” is being created for the streaming series.

“We’re recording a non-book scene that I helped create because it improves the logic of the story,” Becky wrote on Twitter.

Becky continued her tweet, referring to the latest photos from Percy Jackson ‘s set of Scobell wearing the faithful orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt.

“I don’t mind spoilers, but please tag your posts so people can decide for themselves. Please respect our employees on and off the set and our workplace. “

The 2010 movie adaptation differed significantly from the source material, but fans can rest assured that the rebbot is being developed in collaboration with Becky herself. Bringing a book to the big screen is always a difficult matter, because authors want to be faithful to the text while leaving their own unique imprint on it. This “non-book scene” is not created for the sake of being different, but rather because it strengthens the story.

Moreover, some of the best scenes from other popular “young adult” franchises were absent from their written versions. The iconic confrontation of Harry Potter “How dare you stand where he stood!” with Severus Snape is special to the wizarding series because there is no such scene in the books.

The Percy Jackson series follows the events of the Lightning Thief over eight episodes, which is much more time than a typical feature film. As a result, some chapters of the book will be shortened or cut to fit within the series. As Rick emphasized before, books and scripts are not mirror images of each other.

“I’m reviewing the new version of Episode 102 from [showrunner] Jon [Steinberg], making some suggested corrections, and sending them back. We’re constantly tweaking each episode, trying to capture that tone and Percy’s voice. I’m sure we’ll keep tweaking until the scenes are filmed, and maybe even later too! As with the novel, the script is never really finished, ”wrote Rick in the March update of his blog page.
