Pasta can be not only delicious, but also charming – a review of the comic book “Dollicious. Life has a taste “, vol. 1

The duo Magdalena “Meago” Kania and Maciej “Maiki” Kur invites you to the delicious world of Dollicious. Meet the hardworking Ramen, the rebellious Strawberry in Chocolate and the original Tiramisu. I guarantee you will look at your meals differently after this comic!

After the great adventures of Emilka Sza – a girl mime – it’s time for the extremely tasty land of Doliland. Here, each of the characters (because it is worth noting that only girls appear here) comes from a specific food group. In the first volume, we get to know characters named after pasta and dishes made from them, fruits in various variations, sweets and herbs. The album contains 24 short and funny stories straight from Delisi’s life. The first violin is played by a mainly noodly family consisting of eight girls: Ramen, Spaghetti, Lasagne, Kokardka, Świderka, Scallop, Nests and Pho. They jointly run the Pasta Cafe restaurant in the capital of their country, and apart from the duties related to it, each of them also has their own additional passion. Ramen, the most frequent favorite, loves cooking (also after hours). but, for example, Muszelka is a painter, and Gniazdo is an experimenter and mechanic. Together, the girls form a beautifully complementary family that quickly arouses the reader’s sympathy.

The world in which the action takes place is colorful, charming and very engaging. The authors made sure that the different parts of the land, depending on the people who live in it, had different characteristics. Therefore, sweets can be found in Sky-High, that is, on floating clouds (reminiscent of cotton candy), and herbs – in the Jungle of Herbs, a bit reminiscent of the wild regions of South America with its climate. The heroines were also refined in every detail. Each of the people who appear has an interesting character, so don’t be afraid of repetition or boredom. Dollicious are individualists and lead an extremely interesting life, on the one hand full of everyday, natural problems, on the other hand shown from the fresh side, because the characters are clearly associated with food.

Meago’s drawing style is pleasantly soft and cute. It is a perfectly balanced mixture of manga drawings and contemporary Disney graphics (e.g. softer Frozen art , which can be viewed mainly in coloring books or licensed books), but with the artist’s individual ideas and solutions. Once again (first it happened with Emilka Sza ) I was also delighted with the full-page art and I would be happy to buy them in the form of posters or smaller graphics to hang on the wall.

Lovely characters, beautiful graphics, funny stories and a very interesting world definitely convince you from the very first pages.
